Frequently Asked Questions
Is this walkie-talkie really free?
Yes, completely free with no hidden fees, no premium tiers, and no ads. You can create channels and talk as long as you want without any limitations.
Is my conversation recorded or monitored?
No. Audio goes directly between browsers via WebRTC peer-to-peer technology. Our servers only help establish the initial connection (signaling). We never hear, record, or store your conversations. You can optionally record locally to your own device.
Do I need to install an app or create an account?
No. The walkie-talkie works entirely in your web browser. Just open the page, allow microphone access, and start talking. No downloads, no sign-ups, no phone numbers needed.
How many people can join a channel?
Up to 5 people can join a single channel. Audio is transmitted peer-to-peer between all participants in a full mesh network for the best quality.
Does it work on mobile phones?
Yes. It works on all modern mobile browsers including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. WebRTC audio continues even when the browser is minimized or the screen is off.
What is the difference between PTT and Free talk mode?
In Push-to-Talk (PTT) mode, you hold a button or Space key to speak — just like a real walkie-talkie. In Free talk mode, your microphone stays always on for hands-free conversation. All participants must agree to switch modes.
Can I reconnect if I get disconnected?
Yes. Channels remain active for up to 2 hours after the last disconnect. You can rejoin using the same channel code or link. Your chat history is preserved.
Is the connection secure and encrypted?
Yes. All audio is encrypted end-to-end using WebRTC DTLS-SRTP protocol. Even if someone intercepts the data stream, they cannot listen to your conversation.
We can — and it's free! Just send us a quick message with your idea. If you'd like to discuss it in detail, leave your email and we'll get back to you. You can stay anonymous.
