Frequently Asked Questions

How does the color name matching work?

The tool converts both your picked color and all 150+ database colors to CIELAB color space, then finds the closest match using Delta E 2000 — the most accurate perceptual color difference formula.

What is a CVD confusion warning?

Color vision deficiency (CVD) causes certain colors to look similar. The tool simulates how your picked color appears under each type of color blindness, identifies what color name it would be confused with, and warns you.

Does the camera mode work on mobile?

Yes, the camera mode uses getUserMedia API which is supported on most modern mobile browsers. You may need to grant camera permission when prompted.

Is my camera feed stored or transmitted?

No. Camera frames are processed entirely in your browser using Canvas API. No video or image data is ever sent to any server.

Why does the color name sometimes seem off?

Color naming is subjective — the boundary between "red" and "orange" varies by culture and individual. The tool uses a curated database of 150+ common English color names and finds the mathematically closest match in perceptual color space.

Can I use this tool if I am colorblind?

Absolutely. The tool tells you the objective color name and speaks it aloud, helping you identify colors you may not be able to distinguish visually.
