How does this chiptune synthesizer work?
The tool analyzes your audio's pitch using the YIN algorithm (172 times per second), then resynthesizes it using authentic NES/Dendy waveforms — pulse waves with variable duty cycle, 32-step quantized triangle, and 15-bit LFSR noise. This produces genuine chiptune sound, not just audio degradation.
What are the different wave shapes?
Pulse 50% (square wave) gives the classic NES melody sound. Pulse 25% is thinner and more nasal. Pulse 12.5% is very thin, like a Game Boy. Triangle produces a warm bass tone (NES bass channel). Noise uses a 15-bit LFSR for percussion and effects.
Does it work with any music?
It works best with melodies, vocal lines, and simple arrangements where the pitch is clear. On complex polyphonic music (full band recordings), the synthesizer tracks the dominant pitch, which may jump between instruments. Use pitch smoothing to control transitions.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser using Web Audio API and AudioWorklet. Your files never leave your device.
What audio formats are supported?
You can upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, and M4A files up to 50 MB. The converted result can be downloaded as WAV, MP3, or OGG.
