Why Use an Online Dictaphone
Phone voice recorders save in proprietary formats, limit duration, and lack basic editing. This browser-based dictaphone works instantly — no app to install, no account to create, no storage limits. Audio stays on your device and is never uploaded to any server. Record as many clips as you need, name them, and export in standard formats that work everywhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I record system audio without a microphone?
Yes! Switch to "System Audio" mode and select a browser tab or screen to capture its audio. This works without a microphone — perfect for recording podcasts, music, or video calls. This feature is available in Chrome and Edge on desktop computers. It is not supported on iPhones, iPads, or in Safari and Firefox.
Does recording continue in the background?
Yes, recording continues even when the tab is minimized or you switch to another app. The audio is captured until you manually stop it. A wake lock prevents the device from sleeping during recording.
Can I make multiple recordings in one session?
Yes! Each recording appears as a card with its own waveform, playback controls, and download button. You can create as many recordings as you like, rename them, and download individually as WAV or MP3 — or grab everything at once as a ZIP archive.
What is the maximum recording duration?
There is no hard time limit — recording uses your device's memory. Most modern devices can handle 2-3 hours without issues. For very long recordings, we recommend saving periodically. The wake lock feature prevents your device from sleeping during recording.
What audio formats are supported for export?
You can export each recording as WAV (lossless, uncompressed) or MP3 (compressed). For MP3 you can choose the bitrate: 128, 192, 256, or 320 kbps. MP3 encoding is done locally in your browser using the lamejs library.
