Change Audio Pitch Online Free — Shift Key Up or Down

A free browser-based pitch shifter that lets you change the key of any song with semitone and cent precision. Features automatic key detection, BPM analysis, real-time preview, formant preservation, and key-to-key transposition — all processed locally in your browser.

Transpose songs, shift musical key, and fine-tune pitch of any audio file instantly

Features

Shift pitch up or down by up to 24 semitones (2 octaves) with 0.1 semitone precision Real-time preview with Web Audio API — hear the pitch change instantly before exporting Automatic key detection (Krumhansl-Schmuckler algorithm) and BPM analysis Transpose helper: select source and target key, pitch shift is calculated automatically Lock tempo to keep original speed, or let both pitch and speed change together Preserve formants to maintain natural voice character and avoid chipmunk/monster effects

How to Change Audio Pitch

  1. Upload your audio. Drag and drop or click to upload an MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG or other audio file. The tool automatically detects the key and BPM.
  2. Adjust the pitch. Use the semitone slider (-24 to +24) and cents slider (-50 to +50) for precise pitch control. Or use quick presets for common intervals.
  3. Fine-tune settings. Enable "Lock tempo" to keep the original speed. Use "Preserve formants" for natural-sounding voice. Or use the transpose helper to shift between keys.
  4. Preview and download. Click Preview to hear the result instantly. Choose your output format (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG) and quality, then download the pitch-shifted file.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pitch shifting?

Pitch shifting changes the musical key of audio without altering its speed. Moving pitch up makes sounds higher (like singing in a higher key), while moving it down makes them lower. Each semitone equals one piano key step.

How many semitones can I shift?

You can shift pitch up or down by up to 24 semitones (2 full octaves). For fine-tuning, use the cents slider which adjusts in 1/100th of a semitone increments. Most key changes require 1-7 semitones.

What does "Lock tempo" do?

With Lock tempo ON (default), the song's speed stays the same when you change pitch — only the key changes. With Lock tempo OFF, both pitch and speed change together, similar to playing a vinyl record faster or slower.

What does "Preserve formants" do?

Formants are the natural resonances of the human voice. Without formant preservation, large pitch shifts make voices sound unnatural (chipmunk effect when raising, monster effect when lowering). Enabling this option keeps the voice character natural.

How does automatic key detection work?

The tool analyzes the frequency spectrum of your audio using the Krumhansl-Schmuckler algorithm. It compares the energy distribution across 12 pitch classes with known major and minor key profiles to identify the most likely key of the song.

Is my audio processed on a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly. Your audio files are never uploaded to any server. This ensures privacy and enables instant preview.
