Free Online Microphone Test — Professional Quality Analysis
More than a simple "is it working?" check
Most microphone testers show a waveform and say "it works." Timbrica goes further: we analyze noise floor, signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range, latency, and classify background noise — then give you a grade and actionable recommendations.
What We Measure
Noise Floor & Classification
We measure your ambient noise level and identify its type — electrical hum, preamp hiss, room noise — with specific tips for each.
Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
The most important metric for audio quality. We measure how much your voice stands above the noise.
Dynamic Range
From whisper to clap — we measure the full range your mic can capture without distortion.
Latency
Round-trip delay measurement to check if your setup is suitable for real-time audio, calls, or music production.
Overall Grade (A+ to F)
A weighted score across all metrics with personalized recommendations for improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this test accurate?
It uses the Web Audio API for precise measurement within browser capabilities. While not a replacement for professional calibrated equipment, it provides reliable comparative results and identifies real problems.
Do you record or store my audio?
No. Everything runs 100% in your browser. Audio is analyzed in real-time and never uploaded.
What is a good SNR?
Above 40 dB is good for most purposes. Above 50 dB is excellent. Below 30 dB means background noise will be clearly audible.
Why does my mic have electrical hum?
Usually caused by poor USB grounding, proximity to monitors/power supplies, or low-quality cables. Try a different USB port or use a powered USB hub.
Can I compare two microphones?
Yes! After the first test, click "Compare with Another Mic" to run a second test and see a side-by-side comparison.
What browsers are supported?
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari (14+). We recommend Chrome or Edge for the best accuracy.
