How do I make a beat online for free?
Click on the colored cells in the step sequencer grid to place drum sounds. Each row is a different instrument. Press Play to hear your beat loop. Choose from preset patterns or start from scratch. Switch between drum kits like 808 or 909 for different sounds.
What are the drum kit options?
Five kits are available: Default (balanced synthesis), 808 (deep boomy kicks, sharp snares), 909 (punchy transients, classic dance), Lo-Fi (bitcrushed, warm), and Acoustic (natural, organic). Each changes the character of all drum instruments.
How does velocity work?
Right-click any active cell (or long-press on mobile) to cycle through 4 velocity levels: 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%. Lower velocity means quieter and softer sound. This creates more natural, humanized rhythms.
Can I add effects to my beat?
Yes! Click the FX button to open the effects panel. You can add reverb (room ambience), delay (echo), filter (tone shaping), and distortion (grit). Each effect has adjustable parameters and can be toggled on/off.
How do I use the multi-pattern arrangement?
The arrangement lane below the grid shows your patterns (A, B, C...). Click "+" to add a new pattern. Click a pattern letter to switch to it. During playback, the sequencer cycles through all patterns in order.
Can I export my beat as MIDI?
Yes! Click the MIDI button next to the WAV download. This creates a standard MIDI file with drums on channel 10 and melody on channel 1, compatible with any DAW like Ableton, FL Studio, or Logic Pro.
What is scale lock for melody?
When you add a melody instrument, you can lock notes to a musical scale (Major, Minor, Pentatonic, Blues). Only notes in the selected scale and key are shown, making it easy to create melodies that sound good.
Is this beat maker free?
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no download, no ads. All sounds are synthesized in your browser using Web Audio API. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
