Identify Any Screw or Bolt Size

A free tool for identifying an unknown screw or bolt. Lay the fastener on a calibrated on-screen ruler, or print a 1:1 paper gauge with thread-pitch strips, and read off its metric or imperial size — diameter, pitch and length — without a caliper or a thread gauge set.

How to identify a screw

1
Pick a mode

Choose "Measure on screen" to use a calibrated ruler, or "Print a gauge" to download a paper sheet.

2
Calibrate or print at 100%

On screen, match the blue rectangle to a bank card. On paper, print at Actual size and check the 50 mm bar.

3
Measure the screw

Lay the shank across the diameter ruler and the whole screw along the length ruler; for pitch, match the thread to a strip.

4
Read the result

The tool shows the nearest screw size, its thread pitch and length, with the closest match in the other standard.
