How to Take the Typing Speed Test

  1. Pick a timer. Choose 15, 30, 60, or 120 seconds depending on how long you want to type.
  2. Start typing. Click the text area and begin typing. The timer starts on your first keystroke. Correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red.
  3. Review your results. When time runs out, see your WPM, CPM, accuracy, and rank. Results are saved to your local history.

What is a good WPM score?

The average typing speed is 35-45 WPM. Skilled typists reach 60-80 WPM. Professional typists and programmers often exceed 80-100 WPM. The world record is over 200 WPM.

How is WPM calculated?

WPM = (Total characters typed / 5) / Minutes elapsed. A "word" is standardized at 5 characters. Only correct characters are counted toward WPM.

Can I fix mistakes while typing?

Yes, you can use Backspace to correct errors within the current word. However, you cannot go back to previously completed words.

Does this work on mobile devices?

Yes, the test works with on-screen keyboards on phones and tablets. However, results may differ from physical keyboard typing due to autocorrect and touch input.

Is my data stored anywhere?

All results are saved only in your browser localStorage. No data is sent to any server. Clearing browser data will erase your history.
