Frequently asked questions

How are the stresses placed?

From a dictionary of 535,000+ Russian word forms (Wiktionary data, CC-BY-SA). For each word the tool finds the stressed vowel and marks it. Processing runs in your browser via JavaScript.

What about homographs?

Words spelled the same but stressed differently (за́мок — a castle, замо́к — a lock) are highlighted in yellow. Click the word and choose the variant that fits the meaning — without context the tool cannot decide for you.

Why restore the letter ё?

The Russian letter ё is always stressed, so restoring it (берёза, полёт) already shows the stress. Turn on “Restore ё” — only unambiguous cases are replaced; debatable ones (все/всё) are left alone.

Can I set the stress manually?

Yes. Put a + before the vowel you want (e.g. за+мок) and the tool keeps your choice instead of overwriting it from the dictionary.
