No. This is an independent, community registry — not a police or manufacturer system. It is useful for resale checks, recovery and a documented history, but it does not replace any official registration required where you are.

It is a dated, account-bound claim, not proof of ownership — anyone can enter any serial. Its value is the public stolen-check, the resale transfer and the recovery trail. A thief who registers a stolen bike only creates dated evidence against themselves.

Yes. Registering, the passport, the stolen-bike check, transfers and the JSON API are all free. You only need a Timbrica account to register and manage bikes.

Enter a bike’s frame / serial number. The registry shows whether a bike with that number is registered and whether its owner has reported it stolen. Separators and letter case don’t matter.

Both records stand — the registry never silently overwrites one with another. The passport shows a conflict notice so a buyer can see there is a dispute and judge for themselves.

Yes — uncheck “list in the directory”. The passport stays reachable by its link and the bike still answers the stolen-check; it just won’t appear in the browsable directory.
