Frequently Asked Questions
How does the word counter handle Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text?
Each CJK character is counted as one word, which matches the standard used by Microsoft Word and other word processors. Latin-script words are counted by whitespace separation as usual.
Is my text private?
Yes. All text processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data is sent to any server, no cookies are set, and nothing is stored. Your text never leaves your device.
What readability formulas are used?
Six industry-standard formulas: Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease (0–100 scale), Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Index, Coleman-Liau Index, SMOG Index, and Automated Readability Index (ARI). Each gives a US school grade level.
Is there a text length limit?
No hard limit. The tool handles texts of any size. For very large documents (over 100,000 characters), analysis updates may take slightly longer but still runs smoothly.
How accurate is the reading time estimate?
Reading time uses 238 words per minute (average adult silent reading speed). Speaking time uses 130 WPM (average speaking pace). Both are widely accepted benchmarks used by Medium, WordPress, and other platforms.
Can I use this for SEO content optimization?
Yes. The keyword density panel shows your top 20 keywords with frequency and percentage. You can switch between 1-word, 2-word, and 3-word phrases. Combined with readability scores and meta description length checking, it covers key SEO content metrics.
