Frequently asked questions
How do I convert 24-hour to 12-hour time?
Subtract 12 from any hour between 13:00 and 23:00 and add PM. 00:xx becomes 12:xx AM, 01:xx–11:xx stays the same with AM, 12:xx stays 12:xx PM, and 13:xx–23:xx becomes 1:xx–11:xx PM.
Is military time the same as 24-hour time?
In everyday use, yes — they refer to the same format. Formal military usage often omits the colon (e.g. 1430 instead of 14:30) and pronounces it "fourteen thirty hours". Some countries add a time-zone letter (e.g. Zulu/Z = UTC).
What is 00:00 in 12-hour time?
00:00 is midnight, written as 12:00 AM. The next day starts at 00:00 and continues through 00:59, then 01:00 = 1 AM.
Is 12 PM noon or midnight?
12 PM is noon; 12 AM is midnight. AM and PM stand for Latin ante meridiem ("before noon") and post meridiem ("after noon"), so 12:00 noon is technically neither — by convention it is written 12 PM.
What does 0600 mean?
0600 (spoken "oh six hundred") is 6:00 in the morning — 6 AM. The 4-digit format is common in aviation, military and medical records because it cannot be misread as PM.
Does it work for times with seconds?
The converter shows hours and minutes only. Seconds are not part of standard military-time conversions; if you need seconds, use the Unix timestamp converter instead.
