How to play

Start a round

Press Start, tap the screen, or hit Space. The first egg drops within a second.

Watch the chutes

Each egg follows one of four trajectories — top-left, top-right, plus the longer paths underneath. Move the basket to the matching corner.

Catch every egg

Three misses end the round. The game speeds up every 10 successful catches.

Grab the bonus

When a bonus character appears at the top, press the BONUS button or Space for an extra life and 50 points.

Questions and answers

Is this the original Soviet handheld?

No. Egg Catcher is an inspired tribute. The gameplay loop matches the 1984 Soviet handheld, but every sprite and line of code is original. The original device was itself a clone of Nintendo Game & Watch "Egg" from 1981.

How do I play on a phone?

Tap one of the four corner buttons under the screen, or tap the corresponding quadrant of the LCD itself. The BONUS button below catches the bonus character.

Can I use a gamepad?

Yes. Connect any standard gamepad — the D-pad moves the basket, the A button grabs the bonus, Start pauses and resumes.

Where are my records stored?

In your browser's local storage, separately for each theme and game-mode combination. Clearing site data resets them.

Why does the game speed up?

Every 10 catches the tick interval shrinks by 8% — the same ramp pattern the original Soviet handheld used. The minimum is 120 ms per stage.

Does it work offline?

Once the page loads, all gameplay runs locally — no network is needed. The site's service worker caches assets for offline visits.
